
An accident at Albert Place. Horse and milk-cart have flattened a lamp-post. No news of the horse. You can see that some milk splashed out of the churn and is dripping onto the road from the corner of the cart. The gas lamps had their glass sides and mantel removed for the summer which is why only the top of the lamp has broken glass.
This is how milk was delivered for many years. You supplied your own jug and the milk was served from a can holding a measured amount (one pint or a half pint) dipped into the churn.
