Photo comment By Bob Taylor: My mother who lived at wisdoms on the Colne road at Coggeshall, witnessed a marauder bomber crash into tall trees behind her home after taking off from Marks Hall airfield, heavily loaded with bombs. The Marauder caught fire and the bombs exploded, shattering windows on the home. The terrible outcome was that only one badly injured airman staggered out of the wreckage to survive. My mother first attended his injuries before flagging down a passing jeep which normally would not have stopped,to help the injured airman get urgent medical attention. She never found out if he survived or not.
