- Market Hill
This building was originally the roundhouse of a post windmill, one associated with one of the so-called "Coggeshall Jobs". In the tale there were two windmills and one was pulled down because "there was not enough wind for both of them". This is the one that was pulled down. The other one which was close by caught fire and was destroyed in the 1870s.

Whatever the truth behind the tale, this windmill was probably the one advertised for sale in March 1833:
"That capital POST WINDMILL, late in the occupation of Mr. Abraham Shead, deceased, driving two pair of French stones, flour mills, jumper, &c., with all her going gears and machinery, to be removed from her present site, exclusive of the brickwork and tiles."
(Chelmsford Chronicle, 1 March 1833)

The advertisement is significant because it specifies that the brickwork—the roundhouse—was to remain after the timber mill and its machinery were removed.

The roundhouse iconverted into a cottage as shown here is thought to have later become the home of Harry Nunn, one of the children of Richard ("Dick") Nunn, the local blacksmith. Harry lived for many years in the family home at Swan Yard with his mother, Dick's widow, and continued working in his father's old smithy. After retiring, he moved into this roundhouse on Tilkey Road, where he devoted himself to gardening. Harry Nunn died in December 1933 at the age of 68 - a century after the old mill was dismantled.
The building later became known as 7 Tilkey Road.
