
In 1867 Arthur Evans 'keeper of a beer-house at Coggeshall called the Toll House' was granted a licence to also sell spirits and from this date the Toll House is referred to as a public house. Offered for Let in September 1892 the Toll House was described as 'a full-licensed roadside Inn with Stables, Sheds, and Piggeries.'
