- J K King
A view of the silk factory (then J K King's) chimney. You can just make out the ladders that had been attached to carry out repair work. Accepting a £1 bet made in the bar of the "Fleece', Mr Meredith climbed the chimney with a flag and a glass of beer and toasts his victory from the top. The problem of the chimney was too deep-seated so it was demolished not long afterwards. Date probably in the 1920's.
