Photo comment By Rosemary True: Coggeshall Hall is in the distance the home of old man Hicks as my family called him. David Hicks was one son the other died during the Second World War. My family also lost a son so the Hamlet being a small community John was mentioned in letters written during the war. PS Gardeners brewery was the other side of the River Blackwater owned by Mrs Gardener later Mrs Sebastian (spelling may not be correct). My family always said the division between Great and Little Coggeshall was the River Blackwater therefore the brewery was in Great Coggeshall. Mrs Sebastian was a figure in my life the same as Old Man Hicks was by name. Roy Ladhams May be able to add to this as his Aunt and Uncle lived at the Hamlet and I know they drank at the Hare and Hounds with my parents before I was born.
