The town clock and and the west side of Stoneham Street (Detail). In Bonford's, a hardware/electrical shop (behind the road-sign), is a display of Electrolux vacuum cleaners which were just starting to become a 'must have' home appliance. The notice-board on the side of the clock has a 'British Railways' timetable. The clock is painted a stone colour as it was for many years - from at least 1924, and up to the 1960's.
