- The Old Mill - Once called Lewsey's Mill
A fire was reported in the old mill at 01.40 in the morning of 1st June 1995 and two fire engines, one from Coggeshall and one from Braintree attended but the fire was already well developed. The smoke still rising and the roof fallen in, I took this photo as day broke the morning after the fire.

Photo comment By R True: Christmas trees were sold at the mill.
Photo comment By Deborah warren: My 4th great grandad was James lewsey. According to the 1841 census, he was the Miller at Lewsey’ s mill, listed between Robin’s bridge and stoneham street. I believe he was a corn Miller. I’ve been trying to find clues as to where this mill ( water or wind powered ?) may have been. Could your pictures be of Lewsey’s mill, or on the same site ? what a sad loss. Was there once a windmill at windmill fields? Lewsey’s mill has sadly disappeared too. Maybe someone can help
